There are only two reasons for you to be here, a research error or you want to find out how to write articles that are worth reading.
To be honest, I hope this is the second option, because in that case I can help you with some advice. On the other hand, if you’ve gotten lost, I can’t help you.
As for writing articles, there are many ways to do it and some have undeniable advantages, but the result suffers from this ease don’t forget it!
For me, the classical methods taught in school, whereby you have to write titles and subtitles first, are not effective. They make it possible to write an article with content, but the architecture of the latter is not worth much. And believe me, the architecture of an article is sometimes more important than the content itself, because that’s what keeps a reader on the edge of their seats throughout the reading.
The classic techniques
I will therefore present to you the so-called “classical” writing techniques. Whether for articles or simple texts, these techniques are usable, but not optimal in my opinion.
You are free to use the techniques that seem effective to you, but I advise you to read this article to the end. The fact is that my method combines various aspects from various classical techniques. By mixing them together, we obtain a complex but very efficient work pattern, which allows us to develop very high quality articles.
The title technique :
First of all, you have the famous title construction technique. In other words, you list important elements in the form of titles and subtitles. This technique has the advantage of being simple and of structuring your work so as not to get lost on the way. But in my opinion, getting lost is a great way to discover new elements that can improve your article. Why ?
The answer is simple, by losing you, your brain will turn much faster to allow you to get back to work. But sometimes he may discover a new lead by looking for the one you were developing a few minutes before. In this way, you sometimes manage to find information that no one else has ever mentioned, but which has the merit of being interesting. It doesn’t always work, but it’s worth it, I guarantee you.
Returning to skeleton construction, the advantage is that you can make sure you include all the elements of your research. For example, you note the titles by linking the sites that give you important information for this section. Then you only have to come back to the site and write your article.
One of the concerns is that if you find new elements that deserve a section, you need to reorganize your diagram after you have already written some parts. This can in some cases complicate the task.
The work since the end :
This technique consists in writing your conclusion during your research in order to build your article so that all the elements lead to this conclusion. In the idea it is an effective technique, because your conclusion will be very good and you will only have to write the different chapters according to it.
But this technique is not as simple as it seems. First, writing a short and complete conclusion is very difficult. Especially if the theme is long ! Not to mention that you will write a conclusion based on research, in other words you will condense information that you did not appropriate by writing the chapters, thus increasing the difficulty.
The second problem with this technique, assuming that your conclusion is successful despite the difficulties mentioned above, is compliance. Write complete chapters taking into account that the construction and information must lead to your conclusion is another difficult exercise.
Personally I think this technique is appropriate for experienced writers. Because its defects are mainly technical difficulties that can be mastered by experienced people. As far as content is concerned, the quality will undoubtedly be high.
Audience targeting :
With regard to audience targeting, the title already reveals the approach used in this case. Indeed, this scheme consists in writing the article from the reader’s point of view and therefore in one go, without preparation, research aside of course.
The advantage of this method is that your content will be of very good quality for a target audience, but this has disadvantages as well. Another advantage is experience. By targeting an audience, as the articles progress, you will have a very precise vision of the content to be addressed and this will allow you to be more effective. This advantage is very important, especially for the rest of your blog.
As for the disadvantages, you risk locking yourself too much in a very specific niche. By targeting very precisely certain people, and with experience as mentioned above, you risk becoming too specific and losing the fans of the genre. If you want to have an imposing site and make it a reference one day, you must take into account that amateurs, people with basic knowledge in your field will not be targeted.
By definition, a reference site is accessible to everyone, from amateurs to people with more advanced knowledge. You should therefore think about the direction you want to give your site later.
The reworked summary :
This time, you start from a summary of your article, without title or anything, with the essential content of your research. Once the abstract is completed, you will need to rework and expand it, so that it becomes as consistent and complete as an article. In other words, you do the work twice so that you have all the necessary informations.
One of the advantages of this technique is that you will have a very complete article, if your research were, and therefore the quality will be there. Another significant advantage is the organization. For example, you can write summaries on many articles, keep your research notes and come back to this article later. So you can get ahead and get back to work when you think the time is right.
The disadvantages are equal to the advantages since they are mainly time. Writing a full abstract takes time, perhaps even more than writing an article, depending on the theme. You will therefore have a greater amount of work to do to get your item ready. In addition, you may need to make some significant adjustments to the order of your text. When working on a summary, it is difficult to put things in a coherent order directly. You will therefore have an additional step to perform with this method.
Keep in mind, however, that with experience and work, these disadvantages will be reduced as you will have a better command of abstract writing and the hierarchy of your abstracts.
My approach :
As for my approach, I used elements of the different techniques to create a complete method. With regard to the disadvantages, I will tell you right away that the fact that it is complete adds to the complexity. Indeed my method is complex and quite long, but very effective for a high quality article.
I have not yet had the opportunity to actually use it, except for this article, because I did not have an article consistent enough to use such a treatment. But I have already used it in other situations, so I know its good and bad points.
Write an ephemeral skeleton :
First step, I write a skeleton that will potentially be modified. This method allows you to see what the article will give in a first draft. This will also allow you to structure your research.
Indeed, I use this step to structure my research. So I write titles to see what basic knowledge I have on the subject and what topic I think I should address. My research will therefore focus directly on what I want to say in the article.
As I said earlier, this first scheme will be modifiable, because obviously we do not know everything about a given subject. In other words, if I discover new informations during my research work, I will add it to the raw scheme as a title or subtitle.
So I use this part of the techniques mentioned above for my research. If you have your own research technique, keep it because it is very personal.
The targeted conclusion :
In the second part, I write my conclusion as a summary of my article, on a new empty document, I keep the titles in another document to let my mind wander. Of course, by writing this conclusion, which looks a lot like a classic summary with a few extra elements, I am targeting my audience.
The advantage of this part is that I leave my mind free of any constraints. In addition, I will rework my conclusion, sentence by sentence, in each chapter, which allows me to guide my chapters. But the conclusion will also be integrated as it stands at the end of the article.
The crucial point of this step is to target my audience for the conclusion that will be at the end of the article. Because in this way, I target my audience at the end of the article where all the elements are included in it, but the article itself will be broader in scope, so that everyone can understand it.
General writing :
The next step is to start writing the article itself. You suspect that this is an important step, because no matter the process, if the writing is not good, your article will not be good. So you have to take your time if you’re not sure about the wording, but if you know the subject well, go ahead and make the adjustments later!
You also need to bring your personal touch! Your writing technique and your way of expressing yourself are very important because it adds value to your text. Of course there are things not to do, such as being too familiar or making your explanations too easy to understand. However, this stage also requires talent in mastering language and expression.
You must also have done good research according to the theme to provide interesting and useful information. The best way would also be to offer information that most sites do not offer, so don’t hesitate if you have any.
Retouching and proofreading :
As with any work worthy of the name, it is necessary to go through a stage of retouching and proofreading. This may sometimes seem unnecessary, but the more experience you have, the faster you will write! However, speed can make you forget words, or make big mistakes! I am the first to be affected, and I have learned to avoid the shortcomings of the experience.
You need to be thorough at this step, as it can also greatly improve your item with a minimum of effort. Let’s take as an example an article with a strange twist in the middle. When I read it, it takes me out of my concentration and makes me want to leave the site in question. A simple turnaround error, caused by inattention and you risk losing readers.
Your language does not need to be perfect, but it must still remain in a neat environment. Not using the perfect verbal time at any given time has little impact, but making mistakes can be catastrophic.
I also take advantage of this step to perfect the sentences that seem far-fetched, a bad habit I have, but I also check the SEO. I don’t take much time to do it, but SEO deserves to have 2-3 minutes of verification at the end of the writing.
Finally comes the formatting, a complete proofreading of the document, in order to cut the paragraphs and shorten some sentences for example. This step is not useful for everyone, but my penchant for long sentences and uninterrupted paragraphs forces me to do so.
However, this allows you to control the visual of your article, and sometimes having paragraphs that are too heavy is a disadvantage. It therefore appears that taking a few more minutes here too would avoid some very big disappointments when publishing your text.
I have only given you the basic points for this method, but this will already allow you to improve your technique and therefore your articles.
It may be that once I write a complete step-by-step guide, but it won’t be for now, I’ll keep my technique to myself for the moment. However, do not hesitate to modify this technique! Take ownership of the method and improve it according to your needs and habits.
This method allows you to bring together all the positive aspects of some of the classic methods I have presented to you, without taking their negative side! In other words, all the advantages, with almost no disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that this technique is complex, and long, so you may be slower and produce less content. You must therefore choose the quantity or quality.
On that I’ll let you choose your path! I hope that this article will have pleased you and helped you in your work, do not hesitate to give me your opinion.
Work well on your articles and see you soon,
